Sweet Briar's Fletcher Oak

born 18??   died 9 August 2005

The Fletcher Oak, which graced the campus for a century, toppled on the morning of 9 August.  We are uncertain of its age -- its center was completely rotten, making it impossible for us to count rings.  All who knew it in its vigor, through the late 1990's, will remember it with deep affection.

We know that many people have collected and planted its acorns through the years, and we are looking for a healthy offspring tree that could be transplanted to the campus. If you have such a tree, please contact Linda Fink.
